100 x 100 Millimeters.
The exhibition “100 x 100: small format, very large” at the Berchtoldvilla Salzburg is based on a concept that curator Andrea Lacher-Bryk got to know and love in New Zealand. It is a cooperative exhibition between art bv Berchtoldvilla and Kerikeri, New Zealand.
All the paintings have the same size (100 x 100 mm) and the same price (100,-€). There will be a total of 100 artists exhibiting, one painting from each artist. The exhibition is a foreign cooperation, i.e. the artists come from two countries and an identical or similar exhibition will also be held in the other country – in this case it is a cooperation with New Zealand. 50 artists are from Austria and 50 artists are from New Zealand are participating.
This combination of small-format works and uniformly low prices is a low-threshold offer for art collectors and those who are not yet art collectors. It makes you want to buy works of art. There will be several guided tours through the exhibition and a workshop where visitors will have the opportunity to create such small-format artworks themselves.
The curator Andrea Lacher-Bryk writes about it:
The exhibition concept is both unusual and challenging: Artists had only a tiny 100 x 100 mm piece of land to take possession of, or, in the part of the exhibition called “100 x 100 x 100: mini spaces” a very small cube with edges 100 mm long each. Choice of both subject and technique were completely free, so that we now have a colourful treasure chest of tiny gems to present.
All works of art can be purchased, either during the opening of the exhibition on the 7th of March, during the opening hours of the gallery, or during guided tours and workshops. 2D works cost 100 Euros each, 3D works are individually priced at a few hundred Euros each.
